LEXINGTON, Va. - VMI and Radford University combined to score 22 runs and connect on seven homers as the Highlanders (12-14, 5-2 Big South) took a 13-9 decision over the Keydets (18-14, 0-5 Big South) Saturday afternoon in Big South Conference baseball at Patchin Field.
Radford was lead by first baseman Mark Fleisher who hit two home runs (4,5) for the second straight day against VMI.
The teams were tied 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning when Fleisher launched a grand slam to cap a six-run rally for the Highlanders.
Fleisher's second home run of the game, a two-run shot in the seventh inning, put Radford a head 11-4 and gave the first baseman six RBI's for the contest.
Keydets' catcher Sean Seawell (Spotsylvania, Va. / Spotsylvania) also knocked two homers (2,3) in the game, with right fielder Elliott Erbe (Portsmouth, Va. / Western Branch) (7) and designated hitter Zach Kennedy (Richmond, Va. / Douglas Freeman) (1) connecting on long balls as well.
Overall, Seawell went 3-for-5 with three RBI's.
Radford starter Josh Deaver (1-3) allowed four earned runs over six innings to take the win.
VMI starter Duke Acors (Richmond, Va. / Atlee) (2-6) was roughed up for nine earned runs in six innings, as he took the loss.
The final game of the three game series between Radford and VMI is Sunday afternoon at Patchin Field. The first pitch is schedule for 1:00 p.m.
RHP Jimmy Thoms (2-2. 5.07) will take the hill for VMI, as the Highlanders counter with RHP Justin Morgan (1-2, 4.78).
