Norfolk, Va. - Brandon Carter's two out RBI triple in the fourth inning was the difference in Old Dominion University's 4-2 win over VMI baseball Tuesday night at the Bud Metheny Complex.
The Monarch's held a 2-1 edge in the bottom of the fourth inning before second baseman Eric Mesa led off with a walk and came around to score on Carter's triple, making the score 3-1.
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, VMI catcher Sean Seawell (Spotsylvania, Va. / Spotsylvania) tied the score with an RBI fielder's choice.
Carter broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom half of the second with the first of his two two-out clutch RBI hits in the game, which set the score at 2-1 in ODU's favor.
Second baseman B.T. Good (Vienna, Va. / James Madison) collected three hits for the Keydets, while leftfielder Jacoby Fields (Prince George, Va. / Prince George) added two.
The Monarch's James Burok (1-5) threw three inning of relief to earn the win.
VMI starter Duke Acors (2-5) suffered the loss.
Tuesday's game was originally scheduled for March 10, but inclement weather postponed the contest.
VMI returns to Patchin Field on Saturday for a doubleheader with Brown University. The first pitched is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
