VMI Men's Soccer Losses Heartbreaker to Longwood, 2-1

Lexington, Va. -- With the score knotted up 1-1 and under three minutes left to play, the Longwood men's soccer team (2-1) silenced a rowdy Patchin Field crowd, Friday afternoon, when junior midfielder Stuart Bertsch (Norfolk, Va. / Maury) scored to put his team up for good, and defeat VMI, 2-1.

The loss sends the Keydets to 0-3 on the year.

Longwood drew first blood 13 minutes into the contest when sophomore forward Mat Dishner (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Jeff Forrest) drilled a 30-yard kick for the game's first goal.

VMI evened things up at the 42:23 mark when freshman forward Alec Winsper (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cox) scored his first collegiate goal.

Both teams played extremely aggressive as VMI was charged with 16 fouls and Longwood 13.

The Keydets look to enter the win column Tuesday night when they travel to Liberty for their first-ever Big South Conference game. Game time is 7 p.m.
