Spartanburg, S.C. - After battling 90 minutes in regulation and then an entire 15-minute overtime without scoring, Wofford senior Gabe Garcia (Pflugerville, Texas / Grissom) broke through and finally scored with 16 seconds left in double overtime as the Terriers knocked off VMI 1-0 in men's soccer, Saturday afternoon, in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Keydets (1-6) could not convert the seven shots on goal they attempted, including two from freshman Mike Lloyd (Saline, M.I. / Saline).
Freshman Thomas Upton (Richmond, Va. / Godwin) got the surprise start in net for the Keydets and made the most out of his first collegiate game.
Wofford College (2-6) attempted 13 shots on goal with no success until Garcia won it with a goal at the 119:14 mark, assisted by sophomore Jay Orders (Greenville, S.C. / Greenville).
VMI returns to Patchin Field Wednesday afternoon for a
4:00 pm game against Manhattan College.
