Charleston, SC-VMI pitcher Phil Hendrix picked up the complete-game win with a 2-1 win over The Citadel in game six of the Southern Conference Championships at Riley Park in Charleston, SC.  The Keydets improve to the 23-27 as the Bulldogs drop to 32-25.
"We just have a bunch of hard-nosed kids that just come out and play hard," said VMI head coach Tom Slater. "It doesn't matter who's on the other side of the field; they just come out and play."
The two teams played six scoreless innings. The Citadel struck first in the seventh inning with a double from Jon Aughey which scored Josh Stackley for the 1-0 lead.  VMI answered when Jon Wade singled to centerfield to score Allan Wimmer. 
The Keydets loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth before Jason Annis knocked a single down the first base line to bring in pinch runner B.T. Good for the win.
Hendrix became the first VMI pitcher to pitch 300+ career innings and sets a VMI single-season record for innings pitched. VMI also set a single-season win record with 23. Hendrix tossed nine strikeouts and one earned run.
Shannon Sprouse took the loss for The Citadel, going two innings and picking up two strikeouts. Starter John Ellis went six and a third innings and threw three strikeouts.
VMI's Justin Briggs went 3-for-4 on the day with a double while Aughey led the Bulldogs going 2-for-3.
VMI will play the loser of the Western Carolina/Furman game May 23 at 10:00am.
