BOONE, N.C. - The Appalachian men's soccer team won their fourth Southern Conference game Tuesday night as they defeated visiting VMI by a score of 2-0. The Mountaineers improve to 11-4-1 overall, 4-2 in league play, while the Keydets fall to 2-8-4, 2-4. Carter Parrish notched his first two assists of the season as he helped out on both goals.
A melee around the net at 18:27 culminated in an Appalachian goal by Brian Fowler and Parrish's first assist of the night. VMI took two shots in the first half but could not connect, and the period ended in a 1-0 Mountaineer lead.
Alex Carter netted his sixth goal of the year at the 65:33 mark as he blasted the ball into the open goal, assisted again by Parrish. The Keydets doubled their shots in the second half, but could never get on the board.
VMI keeper Morgan Harris (Powell, Ohio/ Worthington Killbourne) and ASU netminder Greg Brooks each made a single save for the evening. The game marks Brooks' fifth shutout of the season. Appalachian outshot VMI 11-6.
The Keydets return to action on Saturday when the host Furman at Patchin Field. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
