Charleston, S.C. -- The VMI swimming and diving team (1-3) was defeated by the College of Charleston, 122-96 on Sunday afternoon at the Stern Center Pool. The meet was swum in short course meters.
The Keydets won three of 13 events against the Cougars.
Freshman Ken Rhee (Northridge, Calif./ John F. Kennedy) took top honors in the 100-meter freestyle event with a time of 56.60 seconds.
Junior Ryan Beatley (Grafton, Va./ Grafton) took first place in the 200-meter breaststroke competion, with a time of 2:49.69.
The VMI 200-meter freestyle relay team als took first place with a time of 1:45.27.
Three Keydet swimmers finished second place.
Sophomore James Driggs (Mechanicsville, Va./ Atlee) took second in the 200-meter backstroke, finishing in 2:26.07 seconds.
Sophomore Sean Matson took (Mechanicsville, Va./ Atlee) won the silver medal in the 800-meter freestyle event, clocking a time of 9:43.69.
Sophomore Stanley Gochenour (Dover, Pa./ Dover Area) placed second in the 200-meter breaststroke event, touching the wall in 3:28.34.
VMI will compete in a tri-meet with St. Mary's (Md.) at Randolph-Macon on Saturday at 11 a.m.
