Nasir Nichols was hired as the Keydets’ Athletics Business Coordinator in the summer of 2022. He earned his Master’s of Sports Leadership degree from the VCU Center for Sport Leadership in 2022. He received a B.A. in sports communications and media from Rowan University in 2021 with a minor in communication studies.
In his role as business coordinator with the VMI athletic department, Nichols monitors income and expenses from departmental cash transactions, coordinates vendor cost management and purchasing requisitions. He also assists in ticket office financial reporting and department game management and operations efforts.
Nichols was the Basketball National Championship Operations Coordinator for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) last year, assisting in the development of a grassroots marketing campaign for the Small College National Championships in the city of Richmond. He coordinated tournament staffing and game-day operations of four tournaments and acquired partners, funding, and relationships with local media outlets to increase event awareness enhance publicity and media coverage.
Nichols was a NASCAR Track, Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Whelen Modified Tour communications volunteer this April, where he assisted in the coordination and conducting of post-race press conferences with drivers and crew chiefs with such media groups as Fox Sports and ABC. While at VCU, Nichols assisted in hospitality and catering for the Rams men's basketball team. He helped to capitalize on marketing initiatives by placing exclusive giveaways on seats for premium court-side ticket holders and merchandise for guests on t-shirt themed nights.
While at Rowan, Nichols interned for the NBA G-League’s Delaware Blue Coats and assisted the team president. He was also a student intern at Rowan’s Center for Sports Communication & Social Impact where he focused on research and social initiatives.
