2015 will be LT Kristen Washburn's first season as an assistant coach for VMI women's soccer, following two years as a volunteer assistant for the program. 

LT Washburn is a native of Long Valley, New Jersey who graduated from the Naval Academy in 2009 after lettering four years on the Mids' women's soccer team.

After commissioning, LT Washburn reported aboard USS CLEVELAND (LPD 7) where she served as the Propulsion Officer from June 2009 to September 2011, completing a deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf during that time. She also completed a South Pacific deployment where she participated in Pacific Partnership 2011.

Following the CLEVELAND, LT Washburn reported to Costal Riverine Squadron Three (CRS) and deployed to Kuwait as a Boat Detachment OIC.  During her time at CRS Three, LT Washburn was selected to play on the Armed Forces Women’s Soccer team and went on to compete in the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) 8th World Military Women’s Football Championship in Warendorf, Germany.

LT Washburn is a Naval Science Instructor at VMI’s NROTC unit. She was married in the summer of 2015.
