Jessica Lero enters her third season as an assistant athletic trainer at VMI. Lero oversees the men's soccer and lacrosse teams.
 
A native of Long Beach, Mississippi, Lero comes to the Institute by way of the University of Southern Mississippi where she has served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the track and field and cross country teams since 2021. She also assisted with the football, women’s soccer and men’s and women’s tennis teams while in Hattiesburg.
 
In this role, she Administered rehabilitation, treatment, first aid, injury evaluation, injury prevention, protocols, taping, and concussion testing for entire team. Lero also coordinated care with coaches, trainers and doctors and documented injuries, rehabilitation, treatment, and medical paperwork.
 
While in the Hattiesburg area, she also served as an athletic trainer for the NPSL’s Southern States Soccer Club during the summers of 2021 and 2022. Lero was responsible for medical coverage, emergency care, injury prevention, injury evaluations, treatment, rehabilitation and management, among other duties.
 
Lero also served as an athletic trainer for East Marion High School in Columbia, Mississippi, during the 2022 fall season.
 
In her free time, she enjoys hiking, anything outdoors and spending time with family and friends. 
 
Lero graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor's degree in athletic training in May 2021 and went on to earn a master of science degree in sports management in 2023.
 
She is a BOC certified athletic trainer, a provider of American Heart Basic Life Support and a licensed Corrective Exercise Specialist. Lero has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) since 2018.
