Kate Collins Sets a then-VMI Record in the Pole Vault (outdoors - 2010 BSC)

Career Highlights:

Three-time Big South pole vault champion
Third in vault at 2012 BSC Indoor Meet, became 2nd VMI woman to clear 12 feet
Six-time ECAC Qualifier (three indoor, three outdoor)
Fourth in pole vault at 2011 Big South Indoor Meet

2013-14: Won her third Big South title at the indoor championship...that number ranks second in the history of VMI women's program (in a single event) only behind Mildred Cooper, who won five shot put titles...finished second at the Appalachian State meet and fourth at the YSU Invite...was 12th at the indoor ECAC Championships...finished fourth at the George Mason Invite outdoors...won the Liberty Twilight Qualifier...tied for fourth at her final conference championship, contested in extremely adverse, rainy conditions. 

2012-13: Won her second Big South title and first outdoor crown at the Big South Outdoor Championships...captured the event over longtime rival Mary Lawrence of Coastal on misses...title was won at Collins' season-high clearance, 3.65 meters (11 11 3/4")...qualified for the ECAC Championships for the fourth time, second outdoors...finished fourth at the Radford Invitational and third at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational...held rank of 2nd Battalion S-7 First Lieutenant in the VMI Corps of Cadets...redshirted the indoor season and is expected to return for her final year in 2013-14.

2011-12: Finished third at the Big South Indoor Championships, where she became the second VMI woman to clear 12 feet (3.76 M/12'4")...finished second to teammate Jennifer Sing at the VMI Collegiate Invitational and the Youngstown State meet, posting clearances of at least 3.55 meters (11'7 3/4") on both occasions...made her third career ECAC appearance during the indoor season (two indoor, one outdoor) and finished in a tie for 14th (3.60 M/11'9 3/4")...finished seventh at the Big South Outdoor meet, equaling her seasonal best of 3.55 M (11'7 3/4")...also notched that mark at Duke, where she finished sixth...academically, was inducted into the Psi Chi honor society for psychology.

2010-11: Had a seasonal best clearance of 3.50 meters (11'5 3/4") at the VMI Winter Relays, leading a Keydet sweep of the top two positions...was fourth at the conference indoor meet...finished fourth at the Northeastern Invitational to open the year (3.35 M)...redshirted the outdoor season.

2009-10: Enjoyed a banner freshman season, highlighted by a Big South title during the indoor season...broke the VMI pole vault records both indoors and outdoors...set the new indoor mark at the Virginia Tech Challenge by clearing 3.50 M (11'5 3/4") and equaled it at the Big South Championships, winning the event on misses...posted a new Keydet best outdoors, where she finished fourth with a 3.41 M (11'2 1/4") effort...was seventh at the Great Dane Classic during the indoor year...finished sixth at the Akron Invitational Feb. 12 (3.40 M/11'1 3/4")...was third at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational in early April...competed at the ECAC Championships, both indoors and outdoors.

High School/Personal: Four-time All-State in outdoor track...ranked second in the state in the indoor pole vault in both 2008 and 2009...ranked as high as 14th in the nation in the outdoor pole vault during the 2009 campaign...member of All-Central Virginia Indoor and Outdoor Track Team (hurdles and pole vault)...lettered in five different sports in high school, including both indoor and outdoor track, cross country, softball and women's soccer...earned many All-District and All-Regional honors across those sports...attended 2009 VHSL International and National Leadership Seminar in Indianapolis, Ind., one of only six students from Virginia invited to participate...member of National Honor Society.
