Biography

THREE-YEAR LETTER WINNER- Returns as one of the top players in the Big South Conference, and was voted runner-up for the Big South Preseason Player of the Year balloting…Will once again anchor the back line at sweeper…Her technical and tactical abilities have enhanced the Keydet back line tremendously over the past two seasons…A tri-captain of this year’s team.

2008: Named First Team All-Big South Conference and Second Team All-State as a junior…Helped lead the Keydet defense to its best season on record, setting new school records for shutouts (6) and goals-against-average (1.30)…Her contribution was best demonstrated in her absence, as the team boasted a 1.09 GAA in the 17 games she did start, while posting a 2.13 GAA in the four games she did not start due to injury…Played in all but three games…Came out of only two games that she started, with one due to injury (9/28 vs. Delaware State)…Ranked as a Battalion Sergeant in the VMI Corps of Cadets…Was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 3 Second Team and to the Big South Women's Soccer All-Academic Team…Also earned Big South Conference Presidential Honor Roll recognition.

2007: Named Second Team All-Big South Conference as a sophomore after transitioning to the back line as a sweeper…Led the Keydets to their best-ever defensive season, posting a school-record four shutouts and a 1.81 goals-against-average…Notched a goal and an assist against Southern Virginia (10/2)…Started every game for the second straight season…Ranked as a Corporal in the VMI Corps of Cadets…Was named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Third Team, becoming the first women’s soccer player in program history to be so honored…Named to the Big South Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team and to the Big South Presidential Honor Roll.

2006: Named Big South Conference Freshman of the Year after ranking second among League rookies with 15 points…One of three Keydets to start every contest, and one of two freshmen to do so…Set a school record for assists by a freshman, while her goals and points totals were the second-most by a VMI freshman…Led the Keydets in points in Conference play…Scored first career goal against Delaware State (9/17)…Saw 15 of her 22 shots go on goal, leading the team with a .682 shots-on-goal percentage and a .227 shot percentage…Picked up her first multi-goal game against Southern Virginia (10/10)… Scored a point in four of team’s eight Big South contests…Also scored a point in the team’s final four games, tying a school record…Distinguished in Academic Merit…Named to the Big South Conference Presidential Honor Roll.

High School:
Four-year letter winner and two-time All-State performer at Centennial…Also honored as Co-MVP of the Sunset Region her senior year…Was her school’s Valedictorian, a National Hispanic Scholar and also received the Scholar-Athlete Award…Also competed for one year on both the school’s track and field and cross country teams…Played with several club teams, including the Tabagators, the Heat and United ‘88.

Personal: Daughter of Maria Thomas…Chemistry major…Participates in the Institute Honors Program and was awarded a VMI Faculty Merit Scholarship.
