Michael Caswell enters his second season as an assistant coach for the VMI Basketball program following his hire in June of 2025.
During his first year at VMI in 2025-26, the Keydets ranked first in the SoCon in assists at 12.6 per game and ranked third in both free throw percentage (72.3) and steals per game (7.0). He helped coach TJ Johnson to Third Team All-SoCon honors after he finished the year averaging 18.3 points per game as one of the nation's top three-point shooters averaging 3.5 made threes per game.

Caswell comes to the Institute after serving as head coach of Palm Beach Prep in Palm Beach, Florida, where he led the team to 15 wins this past season and coached eight student-athletes to receive an opportunity to play college basketball.

This past year, he also served as the 17U Senior Team Head Coach for Florida Pro, leading skill development in practice and tutored future Florida A&M signee Anthony Knowles.

During the 2023-24 season, Caswell served as an assistant coach at Gettysburg College, helping the team to a regular season Centennial Conference championship – the first in school history – while guiding Jordan Stafford to Conference Player of the Year honors. He taught in-season skill development and served as the strength and conditioning coach.

From 2021-23, he served as a graduate assistant on the coaching staff at Florida State under legendary Head Coach Leonard Hamilton, earning experience as the Interim Video Coordinator and performed scouting reports and film edits for the team. Prior to this role, he was a student manager for the program from 2019-21.

Caswell’s roots in coaching began at Tallahassee Community College where he served as an assistant coach during the 2018-19 season.
Â
A former collegiate student-athlete, Caswell played at Messiah University from 2015-17 before sustaining a career-ending injury and transferred to Florida State to finish his education.

Caswell earned a bachelor's degree in criminology from Florida State in 2021 before going on to earn a master’s degree in sport management at FSU in 2023.
