Alex Burbidge enters his first season as an assistant coach and director of pitching development for the VMI baseball program in 2026-27.

Burbidge comes to the Institute after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Baylor University during the 2025-26 academic year, where he worked closely with the Bears' pitching staff. His responsibilities included statistical analysis, scouting reports, bullpen evaluations and player development using advanced technology such as Trackman, Synergy, Edgertronic cameras and AWRE software. He also assisted with recruiting, program operations and the implementation of new analytical tools, helping oversee the program-wide adoption of AWRE software. During his time at Baylor, the program produced two MLB Draft selections.

In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Burbidge has served as an assistant coach for the Holly Springs Salamanders of the Coastal Plain League since 2025. Working primarily with pitchers, outfielders and first basemen, he helped guide the Salamanders to their first playoff appearance since 2015 during the 2026 season, while tying the franchise record for regular-season wins. In 2025, the Salamanders' pitching staff ranked fourth among 15 teams in the league with a 4.66 ERA, while the offense ranked third in stolen bases and fourth in home runs. Burbidge also assisted in the development of multiple players who went on to sign professional contracts.

Prior to Baylor, Burbidge spent four seasons as a student assistant with the University of Nebraska baseball program from 2021-25. During his time with the Cornhuskers, he specialized in pitching analytics, video scouting and player development, working closely with the Nebraska Athletics Performance Lab to create detailed scouting reports and performance evaluations. He helped the program capture back-to-back Big Ten championships in 2024 and 2025 and worked with 10 MLB Draft selections during his tenure.

Burbidge also spent the summer of 2024 as an analytics assistant with the Orleans Firebirds of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League. In that role, he developed advanced scouting reports, assisted with defensive positioning and pitching strategies and worked with players and coaches on performance analysis. During his time with the Firebirds, he assisted in the development of 29 future MLB Draft selections.

Earlier in his career, Burbidge served as an assistant coach with Advanced Baseball Academy in Stilwell, Kansas, from 2022-24, focusing on hitting instruction, player development and recruiting. He worked with more than 30 student-athletes, including several future Division I players and an undrafted free agent who signed with the Kansas City Royals.

A native of Olathe, Kansas, Burbidge earned his bachelor's degree in criminology and criminal justice from the University of Nebraska in 2025, with minors in national security and history. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in educational leadership with a focus in sport management from Baylor University.
