VMI Wrestling Hosts UVA Friday
LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI wrestling team hosts the University of Virginia Friday in Cormack Hall at 7:30 p.m. in non-conference action.
The Keydets are in the heart of their season, competing last Friday against Appalachian State University and this weekend against UVA and Chattanooga (Sunday). VMI has three Southern Conference matches in February, concluding with a home match against The Citadel on Saturday, Feb. 23.
VMI red-shirt junior Neal Richards earned Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week honors on Wednesday for the second time this season. He sports a 17-3 overall record on the season with six victories by pin.
The Cavaliers narrowly missed making the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association Top 25 poll, having the most votes of any school outside the top 25. UVA is 9-6 on the season, having faced eight ranked opponents, and open ACC competition next weekend.
The two teams last faced each other on January 6, 2016, with UVA winning 35-7 in a match held at St. Christopher’s School in Richmond.
