2011: Pitched in 11 games on the season…After allowing two runs at Florida State on the season's opening weekend, would not allow a run over his next six appearances, spanning 5 2/3 innings…pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings at Oregon State March 12, striking out two…also pitched shutout ball against Virginia Tech, Radford and Coastal Carolina…pitched a 1-2-3 inning in May 14 win against UNC Asheville.
2010: Made seven appearances on the year, posting an ERA of 7.71…retired five of the six hitters he faced in game two against Presbyterian College (5/20), striking out three…made two shutout appearances against UMES, including earning his first career save by picking a runner off to end game three…worked a perfect inning of relief in game three at Bucknell, needing just six pitches to induce three flyouts.
2009: Made 15 relief outings and three starts as a freshman…against #18 Coastal Carolina in the Big South Championship, worked three no-hit innings, issuing one walk while notching a strikeout…matched his career-long in his first collegiate start, allowing just one earned run in 4.1 innings at Radford (4/19)…also worked 4.1 innings in relief against Gardner-Webb (4/11), allowing just two runs while striking out a career-best six…threw 1.2 perfect innings in relief against Liberty (4/4), striking out two…struck out five in 3.1 innings of scoreless relief against Richmond (3/24); surrendered just two hits and one walk…worked a perfect inning of relief in game two at #23 Coastal Carolina (5/9).
Summer: Played in the Virginia Commonwealth League, going 8-1 with a 2.80 ERA…had 74 strikeouts and just eight walks in 60 innings pitched.
High School/Personal: Three-year letterman as a pitcher at L.C. Bird…as a senior, went 6-2 and was named Team MVP…earned a complete game win over top-ranked Cosby in the District Tournament as a senior, striking out nine while allowing only four hits in a 4-3 win…as a junior, went 4-1 with a 2.09 ERA…member of the Junior Honor Society...son of Donald and Donna Deal…won a pair of AAU state championships…went 5-0 for American Legion Post 284 and was 8-1 with the RISE Baseball Club, with both records coming in the summer following his senior season…majoring in economics & business.
