2011: Went 2-1 with three saves and a 4.43 ERA…pitched in 28 games, the fifth-most in school history for a single season…gave up nine of his 20 earned runs in two outings…when those outings are disregarded, ERA falls to 2.56…picked up win with shutout inning against Binghamton (2/27)…threw 1 2/3 shutout frames in win at James Madison (3/8), VMI's first win in Harrisonburg since 1976…won series finale at Winthrop, thanks to a shutout inning of work (3/20)…worked 2 1/3 innings of shutout ball during the Presbyterian series (3/25-27)…threw two shutout innings in doubleheader opener at Radford (4/10)…picked up his first save with three hitless innings at Charleston Southern (4/17)…went 3 1/3 innings in Liberty series (4/22-23), allowing no runs on two hits and getting a save in the series finale…threw two shutout innings in win over UNC Asheville (5/13)…pitched two scoreless innings in Big South Tournament against Radford.
2010: Had a 6.94 ERA on the year, but the majority of that damage came thanks to a pair of bad outings…when his appearances on 3/21 and 5/21 are removed, Thomas' ERA falls to 4.12…went 4.2 innings in his first collegiate start, giving up two fifth-inning runs against JMU (4/7)…got his first collegiate win, and only win of 2010, by allowing one run on three hits over four innings against La Salle (3/11)…gave up one run in two innings against #7 Coastal Carolina (4/23)…worked a scoreless inning of relief against #4 Coastal at the Big South Championship (5/26), striking out two.
High School/Personal: Four-year letterman under head coach Tim Stimmell at Riverbend…in his senior season, was named the Commonwealth District Player of the Year after earning First Team All-District accolades as a pitcher and as a utility player…was also named Second Team All-Metro at first base…as a junior, posted a 2.57 ERA in 52 innings for Riverbend, striking out 58 batters…Honorable Mention selection at pitcher and Second Team All-District utility player…also played basketball...Son of Tracey and Leslie Thomas…played for the Canes Showcase baseball team in 2008 and for the Faris Braves in 2007…majoring in economics & business.
