LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Wrestling could not pick up the deciding victory in a close loss to Davidson Saturday afternoon at Cormack Hall.
In a dual that came down to the final bout, the Keydets (4-7, 0-4 SoCon) could not come away with the win against the Wildcats, falling 24-18.
VMI went up 6-0 early after Davidson forfeited the 125 weight class. 141-pounder
Dyson Dunham came away with a dominating major decision to put the Keydets up 10-3 through three matches.
The Wildcats flipped the script with back-to-back technical falls, making it 13-10. The tables turned once again when 165-pounder
Ryan Vigil scored the 14-3 major decision to put VMI up by one.
However, Davidson scored eight team points and regained the lead, 21-14. In an electric outing from
Andrew Barford, who jumped up to the 197 bout, where the freshman earned a 19-6 major decision that put the Keydets within reach of a win. With the match on the line, the heavyweight battle did not disappoint, with
Drake Garrison showing grit and taking Davidson to overtime.
