LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Baseball earned its fifth win of the season after topping Maryland Eastern Shore Friday afternoon at Lamore Field at Gray-Minor Stadium.
The Keydets (5-1) recorded their fourth run-rule win after a 13-3 rout over the Hawks. VMI returns to the win column with its 20th-straight victory over UMES.

Scoring Summary
- In the bottom of the first inning, Cook took the first pitch he saw yard, a no-doubter over the scoreboard to go up 1-0.
- VMI had three cross the plate in the second inning, the bulk coming off a Cook single.
- Hamilton's double, nearly triple, cleared the bases in the third, giving VMI a 7-0 lead.
- UMES plated two in the fourth.
- VMI's fourth inning was the icing on the cake. Cook kicked off the inning with another solo shot, this time to dead center. Perry and Ogle were hit by pitches with the bases loaded to score two more runs. Hamilton's second double of the day sent two more Keydets home and made it 13-2.
- The Hawks got one back in the fifth, but Taylor allowed just two base runners in his three innings to keep the lead safe.
