LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Wrestling started its road trip with a loss to Gardner-Webb Sunday afternoon at Paul Porter Arena.
After their big win on Friday, the Keydets (5-8, 1-5 SoCon) were shut down by the Runnin' Bulldogs, 30-13, in the first of three road duals to close out the regular season.
Three Keydets earned bout wins against the Bulldogs. With the dual starting at heavyweight and Gardner-Webb getting the first four wins, 149-pounder
Phoenix Alyea stopped the run and earned his first SoCon win and first victory of the dual for VMI with a 13-4 major decision.
The Keydets earned another win, this time an 8-2 decision by
Ryan Vigil at 165 pounds, keeping a dual victory within reach at 21-7. Vigil has now won three-straight matches.

Andrew Barford tallied his second league win in his last three matches with a third-period pin, but the Bulldogs claimed wins at 174 and 197 pounds to top the Keydets.
