ST. PAUL, Minn. – The VMI Water Polo Team closed out its action in the Macalester Invite on Sunday, defeating Grove City and host Macalester to end the weekend with a 3-1 record.

- VMI struck first and after Grove City evened the game 2-2, the Keydets scored four straight
- Grove City cut the deficit to three a couple of times, but VMI settled in during the second quarter, extending the lead to 10-5 at the break
- The second half was all VMI, coasting to the 20-8 victory
Game 2 – W, 13-12 at Macalester

- Day picks up three saves, Sauceda scores three
- Macalester jumped in front 2-0 and would make it 4-1 midway through the first
- The Keydets would wake up, closing the period with three unanswered goals and opened the second with a score (5-4)
- The teams traded scores in the second and the third, but VMI held a 9-8 advantage as the teams went to the fourth quarter

Sydney Smith made the score 13-10 with 2:20 to play, but Macalester had one run left in them, making it 13-12 with 90 seconds remaining
- After a
Danielle Montenegro timeout, VMI would run the clock out and take the game on the road
What's Next
The Keydets (6-5) have a little off time before heading to Rhode Island and Massachusetts, facing Brown and Harvard on March 8. This marks the third time in Montenegro's tenure that VMI has recorded six or more wins. (2025, 2021).
