Looking Back: VMI 79, Chattanooga 71 – Saturday, Jan. 3 – Lexington, Va.
The VMI basketball team rebounded nicely with a 79-71 win over visiting Chattanooga last Saturday afternoon at Cameron Hall.

The win gave VMI its first league victory of the season to improve to 6-9 overall and 1-1 in the SoCon while the Mocs fell to 6-9, 0-2. The victory was significant for the Keydets in that it broke a seven-game losing streak to the Mocs and gave VMI Head Coach Andrew Wilson his first victory over his VMI predecessor and Chattanooga Head Coach Dan Earl.

The win over Chattanooga marked the first time since VMI  defeated the Mocs since  February 19, 2022, an 80-75 VMI win in Chattanooga.

About the Bucs (10-5, 2-0)
ETSU currently sits atop the conference standings with a 10-5 overall record and 2-0 mark to start league play following wins over The Citadel and Mercer last week.

The wins snapped a three-game losing streak from December when the Bucs fell to Austin Peay, North Carolina and Jacksonville State. ETSU got off to a 6-1 start to begin the season before falling to Dayton on the road to begin December.

Four Bucs are averaging double digits scoring led by Brian Taylor II who is contributing 14.6 points per game. Cam Morris III (13.3), Blake Barkley (12.4) and Jaylen Smith (10.3) are also scoring threats to lead the squad.  Taylor also leads the team in rebounds at 4.8 per contest and is second on the team in steals with 22 for the season. Allen Strothers effectively distributes the ball and leads the team in assists with 53 on the year.

All-Time Series vs. ETSU: 15-61

A win over ETSU would …
-Snap a seven-game losing streak to the Bucs dating back to January 29, 2022
-Be VMI's third win over ETSU over the last 22 contests dating back to the 2014-15 season when VMI rejoined the Southern Conference
