VMI Basketball visits The Citadel and Mercer

LEXINGTON, Va. – After playing at Western Carolina this past weekend, the VMI basketball team stayed on the road to continue south for league games at The Citadel and Mercer this Thursday and Saturday.
 
The Keydets (6-15, 1-7) face rival The Citadel Thursday at 7 p.m. in Charleston, South Carolina, before taking on the Mercer Bears Saturday at 2 p.m. in Macon, Georgia.

About the Bulldogs (6-15, 3-5) | All-Time Series: 63-63
Less than two weeks removed from facing The Citadel at home back on January 17, the two schools meet again Thursday night as the Keydets look to reverse an 82-68 loss to the Bulldogs that night. With the win, the Bulldogs evened the all-time series at 63 wins apiece as the next victor looks to regain the edge in the historic rivalry.
 
Braxton Williams leads the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game while Christian Moore is close behind at 10.9 ppg. Williams scored a game-high 22 points in The Citadel's win at Cameron Hall while Moore contributed 10.
 
The Bulldogs enter Thursday's contest hungry for a win following an 84-55 defeat at the hands of league leader ETSU last Saturday in Johnson City, Tennessee. A few days prior, The Citadel upset league foe Furman in overtime by a 79-77 count in Charleston for its third league win of the season.
 
About the Bears (13-8, 5-3)
After winning five SoCon games in a row – including a 77-67 win over VMI two weeks ago on January 15 in Lexington – the Bears are coming off a close 80-77 loss to Wofford last Saturday in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Mercer will face league foe UNCG Thursday night in Macon prior to hosting VMI Saturday afternoon.
 
Against VMI, Mercer's Armani Mighty broke a Cameron Hall record with 25 rebounds on the night to help spur the Bears to victory which included 11 offensive boards.
 
Baraka Okojie ranks third in the league in scoring at 18.6 ppg just ahead of VMI's TJ Johnson's 18.4 ppg.  Mighty averages 13.4 points per outing while Zaire Williams also averages double figures at 12.4 ppg.
