The Keydets, who will be facing off against the Mountaineers for the 54th time in program history, travel for the league opener and the first dual meet of the new year.

VMI enters the matchup 4-3 overall, earning all four victories at home. 149-pounder Patrick Jordon boasts a 5-2 dual record, winning his last four dual matches. In his last outing at the Soldier Salute, Jordon claimed sixth place after two straight victories on day one.

165-pounder Ryan Vigil and 197-pounder Toby Schoffstall also placed at the Soldier Salute, each earning eighth place. Vigil and Schoffstall each played vital roles in the Keydets' last victory over Sacred Heart in December, earning toss-up decisions that stopped potential Pioneer runs.

Stepping up in a big way has been Dyson Dunham at 141 pounds. Dunham, who hadn't wrestled since early November, posted three wins at the Soldier Salute. The 2024 NCAA qualifier is projected to start at 141 this week. Off the mat, Dunham was recently nominated as one of three finalists for the prestigious Three-Legged Stool Award. The Three-Legged Stool represents the core pillars of the VMI experience – academics, military training/leadership, and athletics – and is awarded to one cadet-athlete each year as voted on by VMI faculty and staff.

App State enters the week 4-4 overall, earning a dominating 46-4 win over SoCon foe, Presbyterian, in their conference opener last week. The Mountaineers went toe-to-toe with a pair of nationally-ranked opponents, including a tight 21-14 loss to No. 10 NC State at home and a close 31-12 defeat to No. 20 West Virginia.

The Mountaineers boast a pair of ranked wrestlers with No. 27 Kaden Keiser (FloWrestling) and #24 Tomas Brooker (FloWrestling/InterMat). Both Keiser and Brooker have each accumulated 16 victories, with four coming in duals.
