VMI falls short at Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The VMI basketball team trailed just 34-27 at the half but went cold in the second half as host Furman achieved a 69-48 victory over the Keydets Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena in Greenville, South Carolina.
 
AJ Clark and Tan Yildizoglu paced VMI with six points apiece in the opening half to lead VMI to 27 first-half points and close contention in the opening 20 minutes, but the Paladins held the Keydets to just 21 points in the second half while scoring 35 points of their own to pull away for the league win.
 
Clark earned a pair of steals and breakaway dunks in the first half as the Keydets showed fight but VMI could not sustain the energy during the second half.

*The Keydets went 15-56 from the field (.268) but hit nine three-pointers
*TJ Johnson led all VMI scorers with 15 points for the day while Walker Andrews also hit double digits with 10  
* Furman's Alex Wilkins earned a game-high 17 points while Eddrin Bronson came off the bench to log 16 points for the Paladins. Ben Vander Wal helped the Paladins with 11 points
*VMI earned 25 points off turnovers to Furman's 21, but the Paladins used their height to their advantage to register 22 points in the paint to VMI's 10
