Keydets fall to Chattanooga in regular season finale

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI basketball team put up a good fight but came up short as visiting SoCon regular season champion Chattanooga earned a 91-70 victory over the Keydets Saturday afternoon at Cameron Hall.

With the loss, VMI falls to 13-18 overall and 7-11 in conference play while the Mocs end the regular season on an 12-game win streak to improve to 23-8 overall, 15-3 in league action.

Game Summary
The Mocs jumped out to a 9-0 lead to open the game to force a VMI timeout, which the Keydets cut into quickly following a TJ Johnson three and Augustinas Kiudulas pair of free throws. VMI tied the game at 12-12 at the 12:29 mark. Chattanooga gradually built a 30-20 lead with 4:55 before halftime and again led by 10 at 38-28 with 2:23 before intermission, eventually going into the break with a 44-32 lead over the Keydets.

TJ Johnson hit four threes in the opening half for 12 points while UTC's Honor Huff matched with 12 points on the other end of the court.

Chattanooga again came out strong in the second half with a barrage of jump shots and threes to build a 24-point lead, 65-41, following three straight treys to force another VMI timeout. The Mocs kept the Keydets at bay the remainder of the game and did not allow VMI to come within 15 points the remainder of the contest.
