CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – VMI Baseball played nationally-ranked Virginia to the final out in a tight loss on Tuesday night at Davenport Field at Disharoon Park.
The Keydets (7-1) were handed their first loss of 2025 after falling to the Cavaliers, 6-4. VMI started the season with seven straight wins, the best start since 2010, and posted double-digit runs in each of those contests, the most runs to start a season in program history.

- VMI scored four runs off seven hits with three RBIs.

Grayson Fitzwater went two for three with a triple and one run.

- The Keydets started the game with an RBI single from Raile, scoring Prince.
- Some tricky base running from
Kazuya Jordan forced in another run, making it 2-0.
- Virginia was able to turn the tables with a grand slam in the second.
- In the top of the third, VMI got one back off an RBI from Peterson.
- However, the Cavaliers scored two unearned runs in the fifth inning to double their advantage.
- The Keydets put up a fight in the eighth with a sacrifice fly from Garner.

The Keydets return to the friendly confines for a three-game set against Norfolk State. VMI will host the Spartans on Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m. Sunday's game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
