BALTIMORE, Md. – VMI Men's Swimming & Diving picked up a win in Saturday's tri-meet at the UMBC Aquatic Complex
The Keydets came out of Baltimore with a loss to UMBC (188-111) and a win over Howard (201-98). VMI had 15 podium finishes with four first-place marks.
Sophomore
Stephen Russell builds on his already impressive resume with two victories, one in the 500 Free (4:42.91) and the 1,000 Free (9:56.03). This gives Russell his fifth and sixth first-place marks of the season. He would go on to score second in the 200 IM (1:57.13).
Also producing a first-place mark was freshman
Ian Lutz in the 50 Free (21.29), his second-straight 50 Free win. Lutz would later tab third in the 100 Free (47:15).
Junior
Austin Reeder added points for the Keydets by earning second in the 100 Breast (58.85) and 200 Breast (2:10.64). Junior
Sam Castle boasted a third-place finish in the 100 Back (53.04) and 200 Back (1:56.55). Junior
Matthew Picard nabbed second in the 100 Free (46.35) and third in the 50 Free (21.50).
Sophomore
Jack Mills scored third in the 200 IM (1:57.41), while sophomore
Kayleb Eldridge swam to third place in the 200 Fly (1:55.59).
The 400 Free Relay team with Picard,
Sam Calder, Castle, and Lutz claimed first (3:06.40), while the 200 Medley Relay team with Castle, Picard, Lutz, and
Layne Tucker earned second place (1:33.19).
Next Up
The Keydets return to Goodall Pool for the Keydet Invite. The invite will include eight teams and runs November 14-16, with prelims starting at 10:30 a.m. and finals beginning at 5:30 p.m. each day.
