LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Wrestling put on a clinic in its home opener against Emory & Henry Friday night at Cormack Hall.
The Keydets (1-0) dominated the mat against the Wasps, recording six falls in a 59-0 shutout victory. VMI has now won its last four home openers. 59 points is the most scored in a dual since 1972.
Starting at 149 pounds, the Keydets got rolling thanks to
Patrick Jordon, who had the second-quickest fall of the evening, pinning his opponent in 1:38. Following that, 157-pounder
Ray Cmil picked up the fastest pin, capturing six points in just 1:04.
VMI continued its dominant stretch with three more falls from three freshmen.
JT Bowers pinned his opponent in 4:28 at 165 pounds, followed by 174-pounder
Beau Lewis earning his fall in 1:51 and 184-pounder
Gideon Gerber beginning his collegiate campaign with a fall in 1:48.
At heavyweight,
Cole Will routed to a 19-4 technical fall in 2:22, then on the opposite end of the weight class was 125-pounder
Malachi Ortiz, capping off the night with the Keydets' sixth fall in 4:02.
