SALEM, Va. – VMI Wrestling had plenty of young talent show out during the Southeast Open on Sunday at Cregger Center.
 
The Keydets had three freshmen placers, including a first-place finish. VMI also found three in the Freshman/Sophomore division consolation quarterfinals, and two in the Open division consolation quarterfinals.
 
 
174-pounder Beau Lewis scored first place in his respective FR/SO weight class, dominating his way to four-straight victories, including back-to-back major decisions, with the championship bout being an 8-5 sudden victory.



 
Two other freshmen on opposite weight scales captured sixth place in the FR/SO division. 125-pounder Malachi Ortiz picked up a major decision in the first round before being dropped down to the consolation bracket, where he would win by technical fall and decision to make it to the fifth-place match and ultimately earn sixth. Cole Will came away with sixth place in the FR/SO 285 class, getting a pair of decisions in the process to the fifth-place bout.
