VMI takes on Jacksonville in SoCon-ASUN Challenge

LEXINGTON, Va. – After a dominant win over VU Lynchburg Wednesday night, the VMI basketball team preps for a tough challenge Saturday afternoon when Jacksonville University visits Cameron Hall as part of the annual SoCon-ASUN Challenge.
 
Tip-off with the Dolphins is slated for a 1 p.m. start and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

The Keydets (3-1) were led by redshirt sophomore Walker Andrews Wednesday night as he went off for a new career-high 29 points including six three-pointers, also a career best. Three others recorded new career highs in scoring including Linus Holmstrom (25), Jaylen Pazon (20) and Cal Liston (17). Pazon recorded his first career double-double with his 20 points and 10 rebounds, and junior AJ Clark shattered a career high with 20 rebounds on the night to beat his former best of 12 boards.

Cadet Basketball League Day
Saturday's game is promoted as Cadet Basketball League Day when all youth participants from the league have been invited to attend. Over the past few months, these kids were coached by the VMI basketball team over a six-week period on Sundays at nearby Maury River Middle School. This is the second year of the Cadet Basketball League.

About Jacksonville (1-2)
The Dolphins opened the season on Nov. 3 with a hard-fought loss to instate foe Miami before bouncing back to dominate Trinity College of Florida by a 132-45 count. Jacksonville is coming off an 85-64 defeat at the hands of High Point this past Tuesday on the road.
 
Chris Arias – a Preseason All-ASUN selection - leads the team averaging 12.7 points per game followed by Jaylen Jones at 9.7 ppg. Jason Thirdkill is the top rebounder at 5.0 boards per game and Evan Sterck is the key distributor with 13 assists after three contests.
 
The Dolphins were picked to finish sixth in the ASUN in the preseason media poll.
