The Keydets (4-7, 0-2 SoCon) dropped its first conference dual of 2025 to Chattanooga, 28-10, last weekend. Three Keydets picked up bout victories including
Patrick Jordon who took his opponent into a first-round tiebreaker and tallying a 2-1 victory at 149 pounds. Following up was 197-pounder
Toby Schoffstall who has been stellar since his return, recording a 21-3 technical fall in 5:41. Claiming VMI's final win of the day was
Josh Evans at 285 pounds with a solid 5-2 decision.
Leading the charge this season has been
Braxton Lewis at 184 pounds and 149-pounder Jordon. Lewis boasts a 16-4 record, going 6-1 in duals and 1-0 in SoCon action. Jordon has been crucial to the Keydets success, going 18-3 overall with 12 wins by fall and 33 dual points.
VMI is 9-13 against Gardner-Webb with last year's result ending in a 28-10 loss in Boiling Springs, North Carolina. It is a near-fresh matchup between the Keydets and the Knights of Bellarmine with this Sunday's match being the fifth all-time in program history. Last season, VMI took down Bellarmine, 25-11, at Cormack Hall, leading to a 3-1 series record.
