Keydets earn 10th win of season at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Looking for a quick rebound in conference play, the VMI basketball team earned a hard-fought 74-67 victory over host Wofford College Wednesday night at Richardson Indoor Stadium in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

With the win, VMI improves to 10-12 on the season and 4-5 in conference play while the Terriers fall to 11-11 overall and 5-4 in conference.

The victory snaps a two-game losing skid to the Terriers and marks VMI's first win in Spartanburg since the 2021-22 season when VMI registered an 80-73 victory on December 29, 2021. It is also VMI's 10th all-time win over Wofford.

VMI has now won four of its last five games for its best stretch of games since the 2021-22 season.

VMI Head Coach Andrew Wilson
"This was a big win for our program tonight on the road versus one of the best teams in our league. We have a lot of respect for the Wofford program and we knew they would fight back in the second half after we built a big lead. I'm so proud of our guys for playing with confidence down the stretch and believing in each other. This was a total team effort tonight."

Game Summary
The Keydets struck early and built a dominant 41-25 advantage going into halftime. Sophomore guard TJ Johnson could not miss from beyond the arc as he went a perfect 5-5 from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes. Tan Yildizoglu also played a big role with eight points including two treys in the first half.

Wofford made its presence known quickly in the second half and knotted the score at 43-43 at the 15:21 mark as the Terriers held VMI to just two points in the first five minutes of the half. VMI then regained its edge and gradually built a nine-point lead at 64-55 with just under six minutes remaining as the Keydets made enough baskets and free throws down the stretch to hold on to the victory.
