Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Keydets top Furman for third straight SoCon win

First time since 2021-22 VMI has won three straight league games

LEXINGTON, Va.The VMI basketball team earned a hard-fought 91-82 victory over visiting Furman University Wednesday night at Cameron Hall to mark the first time in three years the Keydets have won three straight league contests.

With the win, the Keydets improve to 9-11, 3-4 in conference play while the Paladins fall to 15-5, 3-4 in Southern Conference action.

The win is significant for VMI in that it snapped a five-game losing streak to Furman and is the first win over the Paladins since claiming a 76-67 win in Lexington on January 1, 2022. The victory is VMI's 38th win over the Paladins in the all-time series.

VMI Head Coach Andrew Wilson
"I couldn't be prouder of a group of guys than I am of this team. This is a major step for the program to beat one of the best teams in the SoCon. We have a lot of respect for the Furman program. They have championship DNA. We were determined to take the next step and now we are gaining confidence each time out and we believe we can play with anyone in the league."

Game Summary

Augustinas Kiudulas played a big role in VMI's advantage in the opening half by scoring 14 of his 22 total points from the night during the first 20 minutes. AJ Clark kept the momentum in VMI's favor early in the second half after taking a steal and running down the court for a breakaway dunk to give VMI an 11-point lead at the 15:39 mark to force a Furman timeout.
