ALLIANCE, Ohio – VMI Wrestling had a stellar outing on the mat at the Purple Raider Open hosted by Mount Union on Sunday. The Keydets posted six podium finishes and had three earn a bracket crown.
Dyson Dunham went 5-0 en route to winning the 133-pound bracket. Dunham started with a fall in 2:24 before tallying two major decisions, including a 17-3 win in the championship.
Patrick Jordon had the quickest and most dominant route to victory at 149 pounds, recording five falls and one technical fall in six matchups. Four of Jordon's five falls were under three minutes with one pin being in 1:41.
VMI's final winner was 184-pounder
Braxton Lewis who picked up five wins with back-to-back technical falls in the first two rounds. Holding just a one-point advantage in the championship matchup, Lewis earned a quick takedown on top of riding time to earn the 9-4 decision.
Also claiming podium marks were
Toby Schoffstall at 197 pounds,
Ryan Vigil at 165 pounds, and
Josh Evans at 285 pounds. Schoffstall was given 3rd/4th after going 5-1 while Evans, who went 4-2 on the day, was named 5th/6th after both reached their daily match limits. Vigil's route to fifth place found four victories including a technical fall in the championship bracket before two major decisions on the consolation side.

Next Up for the Keydets
The Keydets return to Southern Conference action next Saturday at 1 p.m. against Chattanooga in Cleveland, Tennessee at Cleveland High School. VMI seeks its first win over the Mocs since 2003. Last season, the Keydets dropped the league regular season dual, 31-13, at home.
