LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Wrestling announced that 10 new Keydets will join the 2024-25 roster.
"This is a very accomplished group of wrestlers," says VMI Wrestling Head Coach,
Jim Gibson. "Between the 10 incoming guys, they hold 12 state championships and 24 overall state medals. Our coaching staff is excited to add this level of talent to our roster and continue to raise the level of competition in our practice room. This group is coming to VMI understanding the importance of lifestyle commitment and is ready to excel academically and athletically."
Rob Atwood | Hartsville, Tenn. | 197 lbs
Atwood was a multi-sport Trousdale County High School athlete, lettering seven times between football and wrestling. He earned a combined 151-4 record on the mat with 98 career falls and was named Trousdale County's first-ever state champ in 2022, en route to three consecutive Tennessee titles in his high school campaign. Atwood was an 11-time All-American with Elite Athletic Club.
Logan Chambers | Virginia Beach, Va. | 165 lbs
A three-time letter winner at Ocean Lakes High School, Chambers was a three-time state qualifier while placing in 2023 and being a finalist in 2024. He was named a senior national All-American after going 38-3 during his senior campaign and later earned the OLHS Athlete of the Year award.
Eli Cramer | Chesterfield, Va. | 133 lbs
Cramer became a three-time VHSL Class 6 State champ and two-time Region 6A champion representing Cosby High School. He was named a National Wrestling Coaches Association Character and Leadership All-American in 2023 and a team captain of three seasons with a career record of 150-8, earning him CHS Athlete of the Year his senior season. Cramer holds the record for most individual wrestling championships in program history.
Ethan Flowers | Salem, Va. | 174 lbs
Flowers lettered four times at Glenvar High School, earning a 117-8 career record on the mat. He was a two-time state champ, four-time region champion, and a three-time national team athlete and member of the Virginia Elite Club.
Drake Garrison | Harrisonburg, Va. | 285 lbs
Garrison was a four-year starter and two-year captain at Broadway High School who tallied 125 season takedowns en route to a state title. He also acquired VHSCA All-American honors and a Greco State Championship.
Kyle Gibson | New Kent, Va. | 125 lbs
Gibson comes out of New Kent High School where he was a four-time state placer and a two-time state champ. He is a four-year region title holder, a VAWA Freestyle State Champion, and an NHSCA All-American. After ending high school with a 118-22 career record, Gibson earned District Player of the Year honors.
Tristan Hass | North Tazewell, Va. | 165 lbs
Hass was a three-sport athlete at Graham High School, playing baseball, football, and wrestling during his four-year stint. He was one of four state placers to reach state finals in GHS history after going undefeated during senior season. Hass landed on the All-District second-team for football and helped the G-Men reach a 2023 state title.
Evan Mason | Cary, N.C. | 149 lbs
Lettering twice at Cardinal Gibbons High School, Mason earned the Rookie of the Year title in 2020 and Most Outstanding Wrestler in 2022. He holds a high school record of 75-23 and was a state qualifier in 2024. Mason received the Crusader Sword of Honor in 2024.
Waylon Rogers | Orange, Va. | 125 lbs
Rogers comes to VMI after being a four-time state placer and state champion in 2023. He was a three-time regional champ along with earning a runner-up finish. Rogers ended his career with 129 high school wins.
Cody Tanner | Thornton, Colo. | 125 lbs
Tanner lettered four times at Broomfield High School, accumulating three state qualifying seasons. He was a state placer and freestyle state champion in 2024 and was named to the 2024 CHSCA All-State second-team. In the classroom, Tanner picked up two Academic All-State first-team honors.
