Keydets rally late but drop game two

GREENSBORO, N.C. – VMI Baseball (24-22, 6-8 SoCon) produced some clutch at-bats in the ninth inning but it was UNC Greensboro (25-16, 9-5 SoCon) that came up victorious in game two Saturday afternoon at UNCG Baseball Stadium.

The Keydets had a pair cross the plate in the final frame but were one run shy of completing the comeback, falling to the Spartans, 8-7. Despite losing the series, VMI looks to end the weekend on a high note in a rematch against UNCG tomorrow.

Key Stats
- Cole Jenkins went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and one run
- Ty Swaim tallied a team-leading three RBI off a pair of hits
- Owen Prince and Grayson Fitzwater each drew three walks, accounting for six of the Keydets' eight walks
- After each recording a hit, Trey Morgan has now reached base in 32 straight games while Swaim extended his on-base streak to a season-high 17 games
- Morgan tossed 6.1 innings with four strikeouts while Caden Plummer went 1.2 innings with three punch outs and no runs allowed

Scoring Summary
- Just like yesterday's contest, VMI scored the first two runs of the game after Morgan doubled in one run before Swaim singled in the other
- It did not take long for UNCG to erase the deficit, scoring three runs through the first three frames to take a 3-2 advantage
- In the fourth, the Keydets knotted the game up at three with the help of an RBI double from Jenkins
- VMI regained the lead in the sixth inning after aggressive base running off a sacrifice fly and double-steal attempt scored a pair of runs to make it 5-3
- However, a five-run seventh-inning rally from UNCG turned the game upside down, giving the Spartans an 8-5 advance
- Keydets made it interesting in the ninth after a bases-loaded Swaim single scored two, making it 8-7
