HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison got the best of VMI Baseball with an 8-4 final Tuesday behind a five-run first inning from the Dukes.
After VMI went scoreless to begin the game, three of JMU's first four batters reached off of starter
Jaxon Lloyd, including Mason Dunaway, who knocked home two runs with a double. Two infield errors by VMI prolonged the inning, allowing three more unearned runs to score.
VMI scrapped together two runs in the top of the third and two more in the eighth, but it wasn't enough to get past JMU.

Owen Prince was hit by a pitch in the top of the first but was picked off to stall a rally in the top of the 1
st inning
-JMU put two runners on to begin the bottom of the 1
st inning with a double and walk before Dunaway's two-RBI double
-A walk and an error by
Justin Starke loaded the bases before a JMU sac fly extended the lead to 3-0
-A throwing error by
Brett Cook and a bloop single gave JMU a 5-0 lead

Cole Jenkins doubled to begin the 2
nd and got to third with no outs, but he was stranded
-VMI picked up two runs in the 3
rd behind three consecutive singles to begin the frame
-JMU got a run back in their side of the 3
rd off of an RBI triple to centerfield
-The Dukes got one run in both the 5
th and 6
th to extend their lead to 8-2
-VMI went scoreless and left two runners on in both the 6
th and 7
th innings
-Garrett cut into the deficit with his two-run homer in the 8
th
-VMI loaded in the bases in the 9
th, but Garrett flew out to left to end the game
