VMI back on the road to face Furman, The Citadel

LEXINGTON, Va. – After a pair of league games at home, the VMI basketball team embarks on a three-game road swing beginning with two this week at Furman and The Citadel.
 
The Keydets (4-21, 1-11) will face Furman (13-12, 7-5) Wednesday night in Greenville, South Carolina, before heading over to Charleston, South Carolina, to face rival The Citadel (9-16, 1-11) Saturday at 1 p.m.

VMI vs. Furman All-Time Series (37-70)
Wednesday's game marks the 108th all-time meeting between the schools going back to 1938.VMI looks to put an end to a four-game winning streak for the Paladins over the Keydets. VMI last defeated the Paladins on January 1, 2022, a 76-67 victory at Cameron Hall on New Years Day.
 
VMI vs. The Citadel All-Time Series (60-61)
Saturday's game marks the 122nd all-time meeting between the schools dating back to the 1920 season. VMI has won two in a row over the Bulldogs and three of the last five, including a 70-63 win at Cameron Hall back on January 20 of this season. The Bulldogs last defeated VMI on January 21, 2023, a 60-52 victory on VMI's home court.
 
A WIN OVER FURMAN WOULD ...

LAST TIME vs. FURMAN - January 17, 2024 - Furman 100, VMI 60 - Lexington, Va.
   After a two-game Southern Conference road swing, the VMI basketball team fell to visiting Furman by a 100-60 score in its return to Cameron Hall on January 17, 2024. Three Keydets scored in double figures, including freshman Tyran Cook (14), senior Devin Butler (11) and freshman Stephen Olowoniyi (14). The Keydets (3-15, 0-5) kept pace with the Paladins (9-9, 3-2) early on, but Furman's Carter Whitt caught fire and scored 15 points to lead the visitors to a 41-26 lead at the half.
 
LAST TIME vs. THE CITADEL - January 20, 2024 - VMI 70, The Citadel 63 - Lexington, Va.
   After earning a 16-point lead midway through the opening half, the VMI basketball team continued to fight hard in the second half to hang on to beat rival The Citadel, 70-63, Saturday, January 20, at Cameron Hall.
  The victory was monumental for the Keydets (4-15, 1-5) as they earned their fourth victory of the season and first SoCon win of the year. It was also VMI's 60th all-time win against the Bulldogs (8-11, 0-6), who remain winless in SoCon action through six league games. The win also marked VMI's first Division I victory of the season.
