LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Wrestling had a tough evening at Cormack Hall Saturday, dropping all three matchups at the VMI Duals.
The Keydets, who fall to 4-4 overall, could not keep up with their three opponents of Virginia, Edinboro, and King. VMI earned seven individual bout victories including two major decisions and one technical fall.
VMI vs. Virginia
VMI opened the VMI Duals with a 40-3 loss to the Virginia Cavaliers.
Braxton Lewis picked up the Keydets' three points after earning a decision at 184 pounds. The junior was down 8-7 with 17 seconds left before hitting a late reversal to flip the score and win, 9-8.

The Keydets put up the first score but could not gain any ground, falling to the Edinboro Fighting Scots, 41-4. Starting the dual off was 165-pounder
Ryan Vigil who nabbed an 8-0 major decision to put up the first points on the board. Despite the strong start, VMI faltered in the remaining nine bouts.

VMI vs. King
It was a tight race the entire way, but it was the final bout of the evening that sealed the Keydets' fate as the King Tornado took care of business, 20-18. VMI went down 7-0 early before 184-pounder
Braxton Lewis tallied a technical fall (18-3/5:17) for his second triumph of the day followed by a tight 2-0 decision by heavyweight
Josh Evans that eventually cut the deficit to 10-8.
The Keydets picked up the pace, earning back-to-back wins from
Cody Tanner at 125 pounds and
Dyson Dunham at 133 pounds. Tanner's 20-7 major decision was his first dual win of the season. Dunham earned an 8-1 decision that put VMI in the driver's seat, 15-10.
Phoenix Alyea stepped up a weight class and snuck out a victory at 149 pounds with a 17-11 decision. With the score at 18-16 VMI, it was left to the 157-pounders to decide the match, leading to a King match victory.
