LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Swimming & Diving kicks off the home slate at Goodall Pool in the VMI Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon when the Keydets welcome Mount St. Mary's for a dual meet.
For the men, the freshmen made the loudest noise to open the season at Davidson.
Jack Mills broke the Rat and team records in the 200 butterfly then placed first in the 200 IM.
Stephen Russell,
Aubrey Struder, and
Sam Calder each secured a top-five finish while all four freshmen put up a VMI top-10 time in their respective events.
VMI's 4x100 freestyle relay team consisting of
Matthew Picard,
Sam Castle, Calder, and Mills secured a first-place finish for the Keydets. Picard and Castle also nabbed podium marks in their events while
Lane Jones snagged a pair of second-place finishes on the diving boards.
Emerson Cosner led the women's side in the pool, snapping the team and Rat records in the 200 butterfly.
Mackenzie Byrne also placed well, picking up a fifth-place mark in the 100 freestyle and sixth in the 100 butterfly while
Valerie Tonnu tallied a sixth-place finish in the 1,000 freestyle. Byrne and Cosner's times made it to the VMI top 10 list.
The last time the Keydets hosted the Mountaineers was in 2022 when the men posted a 153-145 victory and the women scored their highest point total over an NCAA Division I opponent that season.
