Basketball announces 2023-24 non-conference slate

LEXINGTON, Va. – With the start of the 2023-24 basketball season just a little over three months away, the VMI basketball team announced its non-conference slate Thursday afternoon.
 
The Keydets open the season November 6 at Richmond for the second consecutive year before hosting Christendom for the home opener.
 
VMI then travels to SEC foe South Carolina on November 13 as part of its package with the inaugural Arizona Tipoff. The Keydets travel to Phoenix, Arizona, to face South Dakota on Friday, November 17 in the first round of the mini-tournament and play again Saturday, Nov. 18 against an opponent to be determined.
 
The team will stay out west during Thanksgiving Furlough to head up to the state of Colorado and face the Air Force Academy on Wednesday, November 22, in Colorado Springs the eve of Thanksgiving Day.
 
During Thanksgiving Furlough, VMI will play host to Clarks Summit on Saturday, Nov. 25.
 
The following week, VMI will again face a service academy as the Keydets travel to Annapolis, Maryland, to face the Naval Academy on Wednesday, Nov. 29, seeking a second straight win over the Midshipmen. VMI then hosts Presbyterian in front of the Corps on Saturday, Dec. 2, at Cameron Hall.
 
A week later, VMI will face American University for a second straight Saturday on December 9 as the Keydets look to avenge a close loss last season to the Eagles in Washington, D.C.
 
The Keydets will travel to Radford for a matchup December 12 before traveling east to Longwood for a Sunday afternoon game December 17 in Farmville, Virginia.
 
After final exams, VMI wraps up its non-league schedule with a home game versus Penn State New Kensington on Friday, Dec. 22 in Lexington.
 
The Southern Conference will announce its 2023-24 league schedule in the near future.
