LEXINGTON, Va. – The Old Dominion University baseball team scored runs in each of the first seven innings Wednesday and went on to defeat VMI 11-6 from Gray-Minor Stadium in non-conference play.
The Keydets plated four runs in the seventh inning to cut into the lead, two off a home run from catcher
Cole Garrett and the other two from a
Justin Starke single.
How it happened:
*ODU scored single runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings, two runs in the second and seventh and three in the sixth, aided by six home runs
*VMI scored in the second and fourth frames before the big seventh inning
Highlights:
*Garrett went 2-5 with a double, a home run and a walk, one of four Keydets to have multiple hits
*Starke also tripled on the evening, while
Jimmy Koza had two hits, including a double, and a walk
*
Ty Swaim had two hits and also doubled
*
Zac Morris recorded a hit and a walk
*
Tyler Kaltreider finished the game on the hill with two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and no walks with four strikeouts
*Hunter Fitz-Gerald had two home runs for the Monarchs (25-11)

VMI (20-17) hosts Mercer University in a three-game Southern Conference series this weekend, with the first contest slated to begin Friday at 6 p.m.
