LEXINGTON, Va.
- Ahead 7-6 at the half, the VMI lacrosse team surrendered eight second-half goals while scoring six of its own as the visiting Bobcats of Quinnipiac University escaped with a 14-13 win over VMI Saturday afternoon at Drill Field #2.

Despite the loss, VMI (6-8, 3-5) saw several positives as senior Hartley Jordan earned his 100th career point by scoring three goals and three assists. Coming into the game, the senior from Richmond, Virginia, needed just six points with two regular season games remaining. He accomplished the feat with two goals in the final four minutes as VMI tried desperately to overcome its fourth quarter deficit. He becomes the 20th Keydet in VMI's 40-year program history to reach the milestone.

With 148 goals on the season, VMI has eclipsed its highest goal total in at least 23 years.

Saturday's Senior Day marked the final time LT Ancona, James Boyle, Callum Hadley, Hartley Jordan, Preston Lalicker, Tim Lindenbaum, Scout Ripley, Aaron Ward and Thomas Williamson played on North Post.

VMI Head Coach James Purpura
"It's a tough result, but I'm proud of the guys for fighting for 60 minutes. They never gave up and with seconds left we had an opportunity to tie the game but didn't capitalize. We played well in a lot of the facets, but ultimately a few too many mistakes cost us. We lost the ground ball advantage and the overall face off margin which led them to have more possessions.

"I thought offensively we came out right out of the gate prepared, shared the ball, and for the most part, shot the ball pretty well. We limited turnovers and got spread out scoring. It's only fitting that on senior day, Hartley Jordan was able to have a big game with six points to hit the 100 point club despite missing 60% of a season during Covid. Defensively, we took too many penalties which resulted in some powerplay goals against us. We also gave up some transition off of the face off which they capitalized on. We cleared the ball well and I thought Adam Norris continued his impressive rookie campaign. It was also fitting that Tim Lindenbaum scored in transition on senior day.

"This senior group has been unbelievable ambassadors of VMI lacrosse. They have been great leaders and poured their hearts out for this program and that will never be forgotten. The goal for any class is to leave a program better than they found it, and I'm confident this group has done that. They've won the most games as a class since the class of 2012 and they've set the bar higher for future generations. I will be forever grateful for the work that they have put in and leadership they've provided to our young program as we continue to build this."
