LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI Water Polo team competed in its first match at the VMI Aquatic Center, battling Marist before falling 19-7.

The Red Foxes, who are just outside the Top 25 and receiving votes in the national poll, jumped in front 9-0 but VMI was stride for stride with them the rest of the way.

Courtney Novotny and Sadie Smith led the way with two goals apiece for VMI while Katie Lloyd picked up six saves. Sydney Smith, Caragh Osborne and Gia Donatelli also found the back of the net for the Keydets.

What's Next
VMI returns to the pool Sunday, with a match against St. Francis at 9:40 a.m. and closes out the showcase with a 6:00 p.m. match against Mount Saint Mary's.
