LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI baseball team rallied all the way back from 5-0 and 6-1 deficits Tuesday night to tie the game, but Virginia Tech used a three-run ninth inning to defeat the Keydets 9-7 in Gray-Minor Stadium.
How it happened:
The Hokies scored two each in the first and second innings and one in the third to open a 5-0 lead. VMI scored one in the third and VT plated another run in the sixth. VMI rallied all the way back with one run in the sixth and two each in the seventh and eighth innings.
Cole Jenkins rapped an RBI double in the eighth to tie the game, but the Hokies hit three-straight home runs in the top of the ninth to take a 9-6 advantage. The Keydets scored one in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate but VT closed out the contest.
