BLACKSBURG, Va. – The VMI baseball team was defeated 11-0 Wednesday at Virginia Tech in Atlantic Union Bank Park in non-conference action. The Hokies were ranked #17 in NCAA Division I last week.
The loss snaps a three-game Keydet winning streak and VMI drops to 13-9 on the year.
How it happened:
Virginia Tech (13-7) plated two runs each in the first and third innings and opened an 11-0 edge with seven in the fifth, fueled by a grand slam.
Highlights:
*Trey Morgan had a hit and stole two bases
*Ty Swaim, Zac Morris and Jed Barrett each had a hit and a walk
*Morris and Barrett also had stolen bases
*Jack Thompson threw 1 2/3 innings out of the bullpen, recording five outs while facing only four batters with the aid of a double play
*Hunter Sipe, Clark Driscoll, Andrew Jones and Alex LaRou each tossed scoreless innings of relief
*Carson DeMartini went 3-3 with a double for Virginia Tech

VMI (13-9) opens Southern Conference play this weekend at Wofford College. Game times are scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday in Spartanburg, S.C.
