STARKVILLE, Miss. - The VMI baseball team rallied all the way back from a 10-1 deficit to defeat Mississippi State University 14-13 Saturday in a contest from Dudy Noble Field.
The come-from-behind victory against the 2021 National Champions gave
Sam Roberts his first career win as the head coach of the Keydet program.
VMI displayed plate discipline and good baserunning Saturday, drawing 12 walks and stealing 11 bases.
How it happened:
*The Bulldogs opened a 10-1 lead after two innings, but VMI scratched back into the game with four runs in the third and two each in the fourth and fifth frames
*A four-run seventh inning put the Keydets up 13-12 and they added an important insurance run in the ninth. After the Bulldogs cut the lead to just one with a runner on second and one out,
Will Riley got the last two outs to close out the victory.

Ty Swaim belted a two-run home run in the top of the fifth, drew three walks, stole two bases and scored five times
*Red-shirt junior
Justin Starke was 2-3 with two sacrifice flies, four RBI and three stolen bases
*Freshman
Grayson Fitzwater was 2-3 with two walks and four runs scored

Trey Morgan doubled, walked three times, had two RBI and stole two bases

Zac Morris stole four bases and scored twice

JT Inskeep earned the win, working 2 1/3 innings out of the bullpen

Evan Parmer didn't allow an earned run in his two innings of relief
*Colton Ledbetter was 4-5 with a home run and six RBI for MSU
