Last Time Out – Western Carolina 71, VMI 65 – January 28 – Lexington, Va.
Despite a career-high 23 points from freshman Tyler Houser, the VMI men's basketball team came up just short Saturday against Western Carolina, falling 71-65 in a Southern Conference game in Cameron Hall. The Keydets took a 51-50 lead after a Houser hook shot with 8:52 left in the contest, one of many successful post moves on the afternoon. WCU retook the lead on its next possession and held the advantage the rest of the way. Houser shot 9-of-13 from the floor and added five rebounds. The point total was his highest since posting 18 in mid-November against SUIE. Tony Felder, Jr. had 11 points, his third game of the last four in double figures, and Taeshaud Jackson II logged seven points and six boards.

About The Citadel (9-14, 4-6)
After defeating VMI on January 21, the Bulldogs defeated Western Carolina and fell to Mercer the week following. The Citadel scheduled a quick out-of-conference game with Chicago State on Monday night and fell by a close 76-75 count at home. Stephen Clark paces the offense with 17.1 points per game, ranking third in the conference. He also averages 6.6 rebounds per game, seventh in the league, and is second with 1.8 blocked shots per outing. Austin Ash scores 15.2 points a game with 4.7 rebounds.

About Mercer (11-12, 4-6)
The Bears come into Saturday's meeting hot after rattling off two consecutive league victories over ETSU (71-67, OT) at home and at The Citadel (74-65) this past week. They play host to UNCG Thursday night at 7 p.m. Jalyn McCreary leads the team with 15.3 points per game while Kamar Robertson averages 12.0 points a contest. McCreary also leads the team with 5.7 rebounds per game as he scored 14 points and logged four rebounds in the Bears' 69-61 win over VMI on January 19.
