SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Despite a goal from senior
Malcolm McIntosh, the VMI men's soccer team fell 4-1 Friday afternoon to no. 3 Furman University in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament on Wofford College's Snyder Field.
Christian Kraus had a hat trick for the Paladins, who scored two goals in each half.

Despite today's outcome, it has been an outstanding season for VMI.

*The program's first win against a Division I opponent since 2014 (1-0 victory over Radford on Sept. 19)
*Most goals in a game in 16 years (9-0 win over Regent on Oct. 11)
*The most goals against a Division I foe since 2012 (4-2 win at Queens on Oct. 25)
*The first
SoCon Player of the Week since 2002 (
Kyle Grant – Offensive; Dylan
Holbach – Defensive on Sept. 26)
*Mooney earned second-team All-SoCon honors, while Grant landed on the All-Freshman Team. VMI's last player to earn first or second all-conference honors was in 2015
*VMI's five wins is the most for the program since 2007

Furman will next face Wofford Sunday at 2 p.m. with the winner advancing to the conference title game next weekend
